Band director Wilburn Meier and assistant director Carol Meier were named "Jackets for Life," May 14, at the Athletic Banquet. This is one of Llano High School’s highest honors. Mr. Meier has been at LHS for 25 years; Mrs. Meier, 20 years. They have close to seven decades between them in education.

Mourning the death of one of their classmates, the Cherokee High School Seniors donated approximately $4000 to the family of Payten Vaughn, who was killed in a car wreck Sunday, May 6 on Highway 16 south at the Buffalo Creek Crossing.
According to the San Saba County Sheriff, San Saba County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS Troopers, and San Saba Fire/Rescue and EMS responded to the scene.

A resolution to acquire the LCRA Western District Complex at RR 1431 and Hwy 29 was approved on Monday. The building, which is no longer needed by LCRA because they have moved operations to a new location in Burnet County. The complex sits on approximately six acres and the building has about 14,000 square feet.

Many adults and youth from Packsaddle Fellowship, Kingsland, participated in a baptism in Lake LBJ on April 25. The believers made professions for Christ before 150 people to tell others of their acceptance of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for their salvation for eternal life. There were 17 baptized, 14 youth and 3 adults.

The Llano High School Class of 1962 and classmates celebrated their 50th Reunion April 27-29 with several events. A meet and greet on Friday, April 27, kicked off the weekend at the Badu House. Owners Stan and Karolina Venable provided us with a perfect venue to come together and get re-acquainted.

Grace Episcopal Church, Llano, under the leadership of Master Gardener, Judy Waddell, initiated a new Sunday school venture. The young attendees of Grace Church Sunday school and their teacher, Kendrah McDonald (with the help of caring parishioners) began Lent with a spring garden in the newly renovated children’s play area.

This year’s United States Postal Service Food Drive was a huge success in Llano. Llano postal customers donated approximately 1200 pounds of food.
Each year, postal carriers leave a brown paper bag for each customer to fill up and leave at their mail box. The carrier then picks up the bag on their regualr route.

Classic and antique car enthusiasts will want to be in Llano Memorial Day Weekend. As part of the 2nd Annual Blue Bell/Bluegrass Festival there will be plenty of the vintage wheels cruising around town. For car owners, a Poker Run has been scheduled for Saturday from 11am till 3pm. Those completing the scavenger hunt will be placed in a drawing for a gigantic gift basket.

Llano County Attorney, Cheryll Mabray, announces that newly revised Hot Check Packets are now available in the Llano County Courthouse.
The County Attorney’s office provides services for merchants through its check collection division. Mrs. Mabray’s staff of Assistant County Attorney, Linda Bayless, Linda Poe, Katie Garnett, Abbie Painter, Beverly Gatliff and Gaylene Simpson does everything legally possible to collect restitution for victims of theft by check.

Llano’s City Manager and City Council held a Town Hall Meeting on May 5 and invited the public to participate in the discussion of the future of Llano’s water. At the meeting City Manager Finley deGraffenried gave an overview of 7 water projects currently under Council consideration which would increase Llano’s water availability.

Clarence Alford Biddy, 76, of Burnet, Texas passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012. He was born August 11, 1935 to Dan Biddy and Lilly (Waldrope) Biddy in Lampasas, Texas. On September 12, 1964 Clarence married Shirley Hart in Lometa, Texas. Mr. Biddy lived most of his life in Burnet County; he was a boxer and loved boxing and playing pool.

Darlene Clara Davis, 82, of Kingsland, passed away, May 12, 2012. She was born to Nicholas and Clara (Franger) Tschirhart on August 26, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Ladies Club, Lady Knights of Columbus, volunteered at nursing homes, delivered Meals of Wheels, delivered Communion and loved the Aqua Boom parade.

Joyce Jerrenne Schneider, 89, of Tow, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012. Joyce was born on August 02, 1922 in Pearl, Texas to Gilbert and Wannie White. Joyce had one brother, Waymon C. White, and one sister, Theda "Sis" Word. She married W.J. "Duber" Alexander and moved to Tow in December 1941.

Most families honor the women in their families with a special card or gift, often accompanied by a special meal. Statistics show there are more phone calls on Mother’s Day than any other day of the year.

I believe our country is in serious trouble! It seems we are being attacked politically, financially and spiritually at the same time. To compound this, Americans in general have been lured into a sense of apathy (not interested), or I can’t do anything about it attitude, especially about the state of our country.
We can take back our country from corrupt or self serving politicians, but we must get out of the apathetic mindset a ...

The 77th Annual Llano Co. Rodeo will take place in the new covered arena at the Llano Events Center on Friday & Saturday, June 1st & 2nd. The rodeo parade is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Applications for the parade are available at the Chamber of Commerce or on our website.

Elna Preston, D’Ann Green, and Betty Branham served as voting delegates. HORSESHOE BAY—Billy Tubbs, one of the most successful college coaches in the history of basketball in the Southwest, ran up-tempo teams and delivered an up-tempo speech, May 9, to the Horseshoe Bay Sports Club.
“We took pride in the fact we were in better physical shape than the other guys,” Tubbs said.
