Kevin Collins, of Two-Pro Golf Management, the firm hired by the City of Llano to manage the golf course, updated the City Council on the status of the Llano River Golf Course. Two-Pro assumed management of the golf course on March 19 of this year, following a decision by Council to attempt to gain control of an increasing deficit and increase the profitability of the course. Three precious little girls with hearts the size of Texas sold lemonade and cookies Saturday, June 9, in front of Cherokee Grocery.  Kyler Bordner, Kendall Johnson, and Landry Poss joined hands to help less fortunate children.  They were raising money for The Hope Factory, a non-profit corporation run by John and Mary Catherine Holley of Cherokee.  Proceeds will go to support the Valley of Truth Learning Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, a Christian primary school serving and teaching orphans and ...

Kim Kutch and Brent Wooten were united in the covenant of marriage at 3 pm on June 2, 2012 at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Vicky Troy. Parents of the bride are Tom and Lisa Kutch of Cedar Park. Parents of the groom are Richard and Jeanne Wooten of Valley Spring.

Local film company, Heartland Pictures tapped the talent of country music legend, Charlie Daniels to narrate the explosive new documentary “Behold A Pale Horse” America’s Last Chance, Part One. Mr. Daniels who was filmed on location near his home of Nashville ,Tennessee also wrote an original musical theme for the documentary.

In reflection of this past year, I can say that the Llano Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center has carried on its progress of not only welcoming new members and visitors, but working as a team to encourage and exude a positive attitude citywide. This team has been led by Executive Director JoAnne Smith, and as of last week we bid her a bittersweet goodbye as she takes time to spend with her family.

City of Llano employees will host “Men in Black 3” this weekend at the LanTex Theater. MIB3 is rated PG-13 and will show on Friday, June 22, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 23, at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. Volunteers will raise money through concession sales to help pay for ongoing expenses of our downtown treasure, the LanTex Theater.  Men in Black 3 is a 2012 American science fiction and comedy film starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin.

Llano ISD Board meeting recognized the exceptional performance of Llano’s UIL Literary Team on Monday. The team won both the Regional and State Contest. The team members are Necille Nunez, Sterling Owen, Kasey Hairston, Drew Buttery and Yamillex Espinoza. Kasey Hairston winning the individual state championship and Drew Buttery placing fourth.

Council approved a special use permit to allow a bed and breakfast in an area zoned single family district at 508 Sandstone Street. The property is currently owned by Mike Hazel, who recused himself from any consideration. The proposed change was opposed by only one neighbor when brought before the Planning and Zoning Committee on June 12.

On Thursday, June 14, Russell Scott Lewis,54, was arrested by the Llano Police Department on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony, following the stabbing of BIlly Roy Haggerton, Jr, 44,. at Corner Stop on Hwy 29 in Llano. Lewis allegedly stabbed Haggerton in the chest, puncturing a lung.

The Kerrville Police Department is asking the public’s help in locating Carlos Melendez-Martinez.  Martinez was last seen on June 17, 2012, after 1pm at the Kerrville State Hospital (KSH) in the 700 block of Thompson.  Martinez was held at KSH for aggravated robbery and arson.  He should be considered armed and dangerous. Melendez-Martinez is 29 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

INGRAM—With their new coach looking on, the Llano High summer baseball Jackets, June 14, jolted the Tom Moore Warriors 18-4 and 7-4. The first game featured a 15-run second inning. In that wild frame, Jalen Bauman, Andrew Decker, Eli Tiffin, Wil Siegenthaler, and Kyle Tarter each drove in two runs. Siegenthaler, who had a fine season for the varsity, was the winning pitcher. He is a man with grace and dignity; soft-spoken works here. Middle age is upon him but in a gentle way, and that’s fitting. He played college football for someone who played for a legend. He doesn’t have the rah-rah intensity of Craig Slaughter—but who does? This is a first impression, but our six other sessions were cancelled so this is all I’ve got. There are exciting things going on this summer at the Llano and Kingsland Libraries for all of the kids! So many fun activities to keep kids engaged and reading through the summer – take a minute to see what’s happening at your library!  At the Llano Library this week, the Austin Planetarium will be here with their Mobile Dome for programs throughout the day on Thursday, June 21.
