In a brief persentation Monday afternoon at the Llano County Courthouse, State of Texas Comptroller Susan Combs emphasized the need for Texas to maintain prudent financial policies.
Using graphs and charts, Mrs. Combs illustrated how the cost of Medicaid and Public Education have increased over the last ten years, from 58.9 percent of the State’s General Revenue budget in 2001 to 61.5 percent in 2011.

God knows that we are creatures of sight. We are bound by time and space. We need pictures, stories, visual aids. We need God to open our eyes so that we can see spiritual reality. I do not believe that God created things and then later revisited those creations when He decided He wanted to illustrate something. It seems to me that God created objects and processes specifically to illustrate spiritual realities. The spiritual reality existed in the mind of God, and then He created t ...

It was Sunday morning.
I stood alone in the study of the active, growing church where I was the pastor and didn’t feel like preaching.
Hundreds of people awaited a sermon to help them with their many needs and build their faith, but I wasn’t up to the occasion. My busy schedule had caught up with me; I was weary and couldn’t seem to summon enough strength to walk through my study door and make my way to the pulpit.
Then I noticed an envelope on my desk addressed to “Pastor”.

Dear Editor,
I recently represented the City of Llano at a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) meeting in Fredericksburg. TCEQ oversees and regulates water in the state of Texas as well as LCRA. The meeting was about new legislature concerning the need for a Water Master on rivers.
The drought of 2011 affected many people on the Llano River, of 148 senior water rights called during the drought; the City of Llano affected 69 water right holders upstream.

Dear Editor,
You know when you vote for the President, you are not really electing a Presdient, you are electing someone to vote for the President for you. The fact is they could vote for somone else if they chose to.
This is basically how the Electoral College works. Than’s why in a Presidential Election, they count electoral votes.

Dear Editor,
Please accept this as an apology from the Kingsland Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce.
We are sorry for the shortness of the 43rd Annual Aqua Boom Fireworks as there was honestly a technical difficulty. As a person whom has seen from start to finish it is a very fine detail work in progress.

We are just a few days into July and have already had plenty of excitement at Pecan Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Birthday parties and celebrations galore.
Wednesday, July 4, we had a 4th of July picnic (inside... way too hot outside). The dining room was decorated with red, white and blue flags, bells and stars.

Don’t tell Darrell Hagemann that Llano High is not a basketball school. It served his purposes just fine, and those who follow McNeil High in Round Rock have no complaints. Hagemann, Jackets’ Class of 1980, has completed 20 years as the Mavericks’ head coach—the team’s only head coach in boys’ varsity basketball.
“That was definitely not the highlight of my time in Llano,” said Hagemann.

Did you see where there was an Under-19 football tournament in Austin, June 30-July 7? I’m not talking 7-on-7 here; I’m talking about the International Federation of American Football. No, I hadn’t heard of it, either.
The guests were Japan, France, Sweden, Austria, Panama, Canada, and American Samoa. I imagine the other Samoans feel discriminated against.

GEORGETOWN—Players were everywhere but not many fans; you saw nicknames for the offseason only like Avengers and Fury; there were four games in progress at once. On the sidelines were wintertime coaches not allowed to coach in the summer and summertime coaches not on anyone’s payroll in the winter. They were all enrolled in a basketball-thon on the Southwestern University campus, July 6-8.
Nobody knew less about his team than Aidan Callahan, the new varsity boys’ coach in Llano, and he ...

SAN SABA—You think it’s awfully hot to be playing baseball, softball, or 7-on-7, because those are outdoor ventures in the Texas good ol’ summertime? Basketball (and volleyball) are inside jobs, but the sweat is evidence how wearing these sports are, too—forget about the air-conditioned gymnasiums.
The Llano High girls have been playing two basketball games every Tuesday since last month at the home of the Armadillos.
“I’m proud they’ve done as well as they have,” said head co ...

What a great topic for stimulating the senses we traditionally associate with the images of summer. This wonderful summer fruit not only provides great visual appeal, it also provides super taste and tactile experiences. The fruit of the watermelon is most commonly an attractive red/rose-pinkish color as opposed to a fire-engine, red-orange color.
