Commissioners considered a grant application from VEM Global/Resorts and Lodges.com for the amount of $18,000, to be used toward advertising on their website for lodges in Llano County. Llano County Tourism Committee, or Llano HOT Committee, which distributes the hotel and motel tax collected by the county, recommended approval for the full amount.

Approximately 30 residents and property owners of Oak Ridge Subdivision showed up to Commissioners Court on Monday to show support for the placement of the proposed Emergency Services District on the ballot on November 6.
The issue comes after months of struggle to maintain fire protection for the area.
According to Dale Hoffman, President of the POA at Oak Ridge, it has become increasingly difficult to collect the voluntary contributions from property owners.

Tuesday, July 17, the Llano County Republican Party hosted a candidate forum in anticipation of the upcoming July 31 election at Quail Point in Horseshoe Bay.
Each candidate echoed the same theme, taking back control of the government, being fiscally responsible, and ousting the current President.

Kaleb Schmidt, 2008 Llano High School graduate and son of Kalyn Kothmann and Sid Schmidt, graduated with honors from Texas Lutheran University in May 2012.
While at Texas Lutheran University, Kaleb was an active participant in multiple organizations such as the TLU Tennis Program, the University Symphonic Ensemble, Bulldog Investment Company, and the TLU Honors program.

The Willow City Community Club will meet Friday, August 3, at 6:30 p.m. for the Annual Family Night Celebration at the Willow City School Building/Community Center, located at 2501 Ranch Road 1323.

Starting this Thursday, July 26 (and every Thursday until we get it done) at 9:00 we will have a work party at the jail to tear out the remainder of the first floor.
Last time, we tore out the tongue-and-groove flooring of two rooms in the jailor’s quarters. We need the rest of the flooring out now so that we can begin the bidding process for 32 piers that need to be installed.

Following the 94th Annual Convention of The American Legion, Department of Texas held recently at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Houston, Texas, Harvey H. Klee, was appointed Department Chaplain 2012-2013 by the incoming Department Commander, Dan Corbin. Chaplain Klee is a member of Frank Griggs American Legion Post 370 in Llano, Texas where he holds the position of Judge Advocate, Hubmaster and Webmaster.

Scott & White hospice donated all the labor and supplies to remodel the room allowing hospice families to have a family friendly environment to enjoy. Volunteer labor installed all the new furnishings. The room is located at Hill Country Health Care at 507 E Green Street in Llano.
Michael Stork, Administrator at Hill Country Healthcare, and Macee Williams, Manager of Scott & White Hospice both expressed their excitement in being able to offer this service to the community.

Central Texas Electric Cooperative (CTEC) acknowledged LCRA’s legal maneuvers made Wednesday regarding a dispute over the Wholesale Power Agreement (WPA). LCRA filed a petition in State Court in Travis County on July 18, without any offer to resolve the issue with CTEC and the other LCRA customers that delivered a Notice of Breach of contract to LCRA recently.
“While LCRA’s actions are disappointing, they were expected,” said CTEC General Manager and CEO Bob Loth.

Thomas Robert Stephens, 75, of Llano, Texas passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012. He was born January 27, 1937 to Thomas Laverne Stephens and Dorothy (Walt) Stephens in Tom Bean, Texas. Thomas married Martina Wilson on August 23, 1964 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Stephens was a design architect and a stained glass artist.

Dorothy Mae Conrad Gregory of Galveston, Texas, formerly of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2012 at the age of 84. She was born October 18, 1927 in Llano, Texas to Pauline and Adolph Conrad. She met the love of her life Jack W. Gregory while working at the front desk of a local hotel in Llano. She said she knew the first time he walked into the hotel that she was going to marry him and that she did on Jan.

Buster Neal McGinty, 72, of Granite Shoals, passed away, July 23, 2012. He was born to Shade and Tommie (Rogers) McGinty on July 31, 1939 in Snyder, Texas.
Mr. McGinty proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam war serving two tours of duty. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star.

An investigation into a possible burn ban violation in the early Saturday morning hours of July 14, ended with the shooting of a pit bull dog, and stories regarding the incident are conflicting.
Officer Javier Castro, who is an officer with the Horseshoe Bay Police Department, was patrolling in the area of Clayton Nolen Drive when he noticed what appeared to be an open burning fire adjacent to an apartment complex, according to police reports.

With only two boys who saw significant time with the varsity in 2012, the Llano High baseball team managed to acquit itself nicely, July 19, against Class 5A Copperas Cove. The summertime Jackets lost twice but had their moments in the field and at the plate. Best of all…

When Llano County was created by the State of Texas on February 1, 1856, it was mandated that the men of the county should first meet and select a site within five miles from the center of the county to build a county seat to be named, “Llano.” When that was accomplished June 14, 1856, a second meeting was scheduled in August to elect the county’s first officers.
