Fort Worth native, Andrew Disney, will be visiting Llano on Friday, August 10th, to introduce his first full length film – ‘Searching for Sonny’. The movie is being shown at the Lantex Cinema by the Lantex Film Society at 7:30 pm on Friday. Andrew will be at the theater from 7:00 pm onwards. Disney has been filmmaking from a very early age; his first short film exhibited at the Los Angeles International Film Festival at age 18.

In a 3-1 vote, the Llano City Council voted to set the proposed tax rate for this year’s budget at .41 cents per $100 taxable valuation for the city’s ad valorem tax. The proposed rate is two cents above last year’s rate, but for now only marks the highest the council could go, if it chooses to raise taxes in order to balance the budget.

Local resident, Lance Idol, was recognized as the 2012 Chaplain of the Year by the American Legion Department of Texas at their annual convention in mid July in Houston, Texas. Kingsland and Llano Dairy Queen stores are among the first in a new wave of installations in the State to install new equipment to produce Orange Julius beverage products at Dairy Queen and thus include a product that for a long time was available only in a free-standing Orange Julius facility. First John 5:16-17 tells us to pray for those who are committing “sins not leading to death”. It says there is no command to pray for those who are committing “sins leading to death”. We should note that the Scripture does not prohibit praying for them. Thus, it seems safest to pray for all who are caught in the clutches of sin.

Matt Moss Dees, Jr., 81, a former resident and alderman of Llano, died in San Antonio August 2, 2012. He was born here August 21, 1930, the first son of Almeda and Matt Dees of Llano. He was valedictorian of Llano High School in 1947, graduated from Southwestern University with majors in chemistry and physics in 1951, and then served in the Marine Corps.

Charles Allen Stack, 92, of San Antonio, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He was born September 13, 1919 to Weltha Travis (Stack) and John Stack in Elba, Ohio. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. Florence Helen Clark, 83, of Llano has gone to claim her heavenly home on July 2, 2012. She was born to Albert Julins and Mary Florence (Colton) Nobles on November 26, 1928 in Llano, Texas. Randell Paul Worley, 75, of Kingsland, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, Texas and Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away August 2, 2012. He was born to Richard Homer and Ila Dean (Guffey) Worley on December 30, 1936 in Jud, Texas. Mr. Worley was a veteran of the US Army. After attending flight mechanics school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was assigned as a crew chief in Alaska studying the repair times associated with the colder weather in Alaska.

Llano High School has reserved August 13-15 for new student registration this fall. Families with new or returning students who will be in grades 9-12 need to contact the school to schedule a date/time to fill out paperwork, meet with a counselor, review the child’s transcript and other records, and develop a schedule for the upcoming school year.

Horses have always played a major role in Llano County. For obvious reasons, their importance as the major source of transportation made them one of the most prized pioneer possessions. The first tax rolls show a good horse was worth $75 to $100, whereas land was rarely worth any more than a dollar an acre.

After repairs to the water main serving the Kingsland Library, the facility re-opened last week to the public.
