On December 20, the plan for the future of the Red Top Jail Museum will be revealed to all in attendance at a special digital walk through. The presentation will be given by Anne Toxey and Patrick McMillan, who have created a museum interpretive plan for the jail. The ‘tour’ will give an idea of what the end goal is for the Red Top, and Toxey and McMillan will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding the plan. Commissioners approved three replats and the abandoning of a portion of Ferry Road at Monday morning’s regular session before moving on to consider approving an agricultural burn plan submitted by Fred Reyna, National Resources Conservation Service district conservationist, and Rodney Hooten, with Chanas Ranch. Agricultural burning is allowed even in the event of a Burn Ban, so long as a plan is in place to ensure the utmost of safety.

Water is in short supply in Central Texas, which isn’t surprising to residents in Llano and surrounding counties. Following one of the driest years in 50 years, proponents of the Highland Lakes are fighting to protect the precious resource that not only generates revenue for the area, but also provides water to homeowners, businesses and wildlife.

Craig and Devyn Bauman of Llano are proud to announce the birth of their son Curren William Bauman. He was born October 19th at Fredericksburg Memorial Hospital and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz., and was 19.5 inches long. Grandparents are Don and Karan Watson of Mason, Charles and Ada Jo Bauman of Llano.

On August 24, 2012 a ceremony for the new graduation class of physical therapists was held at Ft. Sam Houston’s Academy of Health Sciences. At the conclusion of that ceremony, another ceremony was held for a former graduate of that same program. Members of the Llano Junior High Band participated in Region 7 West Zone Distrct Band auditions at Brady Middle School on Friday, December 7. There were over 320 students auditioning from 20 other schools including Ballinger, Brownwood, Eastland, Brady and Sonora. There were 21 Llano students who earned spots inthe 81 peice District Band.

The Chamber is still accepting nominations for the 2012 annual awards of ‘Citizen of the Year’, ‘Hall of Fame’, and ‘Educator of the Year’. Nomination forms are available at the Visitor Center as well as from the Chamber’s website. These coveted awards will be announced at the Annual Banquet on January 29, 2013.

On Thursday December 6, 2012 a meeting was held at Burger Bar Cafe to discuss reorganization of the Llano Military News Group and the mailing of Christmas packages to our service-members from Llano County. Papers are being filed with the State of Texas to establish LMNG as a formal organization and a nonprofit organization. Fuel Coffee House will host the popular new animated movie, The Rise of the Guardians, at the LanTex this weekend! This PG rated movie is perfect for the whole family and will show on Friday, December 14th, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, December 15th, at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. This fantasy adventure film is about an evil spirit who hatches a plot to take over the world.

The Junior Woman’s Culture Club of Llano entertained teh Womean’s Culture Club with their annual ornament exchange.Members and guest enjoyed the holiday spirit with a feisty exchanging of holiday ornaments. The clubhouse was decorated by Lou Moyer and her committee, with a Christmas tree as well as stockings on the mantle, hung with care.

It has been a wonderful year since “Cobwebs and Cornerstones, Continuing the Journey” made its debut in Llano. Our home, like every other home this time of year, bears the decorations of the Christmas season. This is all thanks to the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage. My assigned role in the whole Christmas affair was to keep out of her way. And, out of her way, I kept. Consequently, our house is full of the glitter and tinsel of the season with Christmas music playing in the background.

Dorothy Bernice Long, 91, of San Saba, Texas, after  battling congestive heart failure for a number of years, passed away on December 5, 2012 at the hospital in Llano, Texas.  Visitation was held on Friday, December 7, 2012, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba.

Gordon Hefner age 76 of Llano, Texas, peacefully ascended into heaven on December 10, 2012, at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Gordon and his wife, Barbara, have called Llano Texas their home for 40 years. He was a native of Bastrop, Texas, where he married his high school sweetheart Barbara Duran. Walter M. Head passed away on December 7, 2012. A resident of ArtTexas, Walter was born in Austin to Jesse and Helen Head in 1948. In 1971 Walter married his sweetheart Diana Gail Hunt. In their 41 years together Walter and Diana raised four children and recently welcomed their first grandchild.

Linda Fay Reed, 89, a lifetime resident of Llano, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012. She was born April 19, 1923 to Frances Pauline (Teich) Foster and Oscar Linden Foster in San Antonio, Texas.  Her grandfather was Frank Teich, a sculptor who came here from Germany.  He did the World War 1 monument at the Llano Courthouse and two statues on the Capitol grounds in Austin. Hill Country Cats, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to control of the free-roaming cat population in Burnet and Llano counties through the humane method of Trap/Neuter/Return, has been offered a $2,000 challenge grant by the Los Angeles-based Ernest Lieblich Foundation. The UIL Academic Team placed first in three events at Belton High School on Saturday, December 8, 2012, competing against nineteen schools. Winning the prestigious team plaque for Spelling and Vocabulary were Jackets freshman Matthew Cohen, sophomore Sterling Owen, and junior Necille Nunez by just five words over District competitor, Lampasas.

There have been numerous good-to-exciting games between Llano and Wimberley in all sports. The opener in the football season was won by the Texans 27-26. The basketball girls put on a thrilling show, December 14, in Llano. The Lady Jackets made a super, albeit, not ultimately successful comeback, and dropped a 42-39 decision. “Down 11-1, we then did some really good things,” said head coach Daryl Friedrich, “but we made some dumb mistakes, too.

The first Saturday in December has been reserved in recent years for the Llano Woman’s Culture Club Home Tour to raise money for scholarship recipients. The tour features the interior of newly constructed homes along with the renovation of some of the county’s oldest homes. Some tours highlighted homes outside the town of Llano, such as in the Valley Spring Community, and last year, around Castell.
