Prairie Mountain Schoolhouse Bell Stolen, Reward Offered
Wednesday, May 30, 2012 • Posted May 31, 2012

The Prairie Mountain Schoolhouse bell was stolen from its stand beside the schoolhouse last week. The bell was attached to the schoolhouse porch ceiling when the schoolhouse was built in 1924 and was used to call the students to class until the school was closed in 1948. The building has been used as a community center since that time.

The school building has been renovated throughout the years and the bell was displayed on a pole beside the schoolhouse.

Visitors enjoyed viewing the bell and learning of its history. Members of the community were very shocked to learn the bell was missing last Wednesday morning when they met at the schoolhouse.

Since the bell has such a historical significance to the community, members have raised a sizable reward for information leading to the recovery of the bell in good condition.

Please contact the Llano County Sheriff’s Department or Stanley Keese 325-247-5201 with any information regarding the bell.
