Llano High School UIL Academic Coordinator, Debbie Engler, and her State Spelling Champ, Kasey Hairston of Tow, were honored by the Llano ISD School Board at its regular June meeting last Monday.  Kasey won the UIL Academic State Championship in Class 3A Spelling and Vocabulary,  quite a feat for a freshman.   Ronnie Rudd, the president of the Llano School Board, congratulated Mrs. Engler on her efforts, for besides Kasey winning the individual State Championship, her team won the Class 3A Team Spelling Championship.  This is the fourth State Championship Mrs. Engler has coached since 2007.  The other two championships were in Headline Writing and Team Journalism.  Kasey’s mom, Kimberly Kay Smarr, is a teacher at Packsaddle Elementary in Kingsland.
