High School Principal James Scott recognized the LISD UIL Literary Team that recently won State honors. The team won both the Regional and State Contest. Kasey Hairston was the individual state champion and Drew Buttery placed fourth. The team, coached by Debbie Engler, includes Necille Nunez, Sterling Owen, Kasey Hairston, Drew Buttery and Yamillex Espinoza.

Old Middle School Complex Renovation Project manager Dustin Riley reported the near completion of the project, on time and on budget.

Architect Vernon Dunigan reported on the progress of wall sealing and roof work at the High School. The work is expected to be completed before school starts. Mr. Dunigan also reported on work to repair and refasten angle iron used to support HVAC ducts at the High School, after a piece broke loose and fell through the ceiling in a science lab. Mr. Dunigan said the failure was due to the original use of screws too small to support the weight. Because of the obvious safety issue this creates, crews immediately began making repairs throughout the campus. This work also expected to be finished before school starts.

High School Principal James Scott discussed Student Handbook changes with the Board and advised the handbook would be sent home to parents to review and sign and the handbook would be available on the LISD website.

The Board scheduled a Level III Student/Parent Appeal for Monday, August 6, 2012 and the next regular LISD Board Meeting for August 20, 2012. Both meetings at 6:00pm at the O. Henry Building in Llano.
