Wednesday, July 25, 2012 • Posted July 27, 2012

The Willow City Community Club will meet Friday, August 3, at 6:30 p.m. for the Annual Family Night Celebration at the Willow City School Building/Community Center, located at 2501 Ranch Road 1323.

Guests are cordially invited and new members are always welcome.  Special invitation is extended to all former Nebo School and Willow City School students and teachers, and their descendants.

The covered dish meal will be served at 6:45 p.m. followed by socializing and playing games of “42” dominoes.  All families are asked to bring a main dish, a side dish, and/or a dessert with serving utensils.  Drinks, paper products, and utensils will be provided.

Hosts for the evening will be Club Officers Christy Jaster, Adrienne Althaus Jaramillo, and Mable Wilke and their families.

All are reminded that the Willow City School will be open to the public on Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in association with the Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools Open House tour schedule. The School is part of the Gillespie County Country Schools Trail, a designated National Historic Register site.  There is no admission fee to visit and tour the school and premises. The hickory sandstone structure was built in 1905.  While serving as a treasured educational facility, it had two classrooms on the first floor and a large classroom and stage upstairs.  It was closed in 1961 and consolidated with Fredericksburg ISD.

A “42” domino tournament benefit will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a $5 per participant entry fee. This fun tournament is a fundraiser for the Willow City School Preservation Fund benefiting restoration projects.  The top eight players will play in the Championship Round for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plaques from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.  For information or a registration form, one may call 830-685-3385, visit Hohmann’s General Store in Willow City, or download a form at www.historicschools.org/willowcity.htm.
