Matt Moss Dees

Matt Moss Dees, Jr., 81, a former resident and alderman of Llano, died in San Antonio August 2, 2012. He was born here August 21, 1930, the first son of Almeda and Matt Dees of Llano. He was valedictorian of Llano High School in 1947, graduated from Southwestern University with majors in chemistry and physics in 1951, and then served in the Marine Corps. He was then chief chemist of the Agricultural Chemicals plant here and then branch manager of the Thompson-Hayward Chemical Co. office until he was promoted and moved with his family to San Antonio in 1970. He remained in the agricultural chemical business until his retirement. He was active in the community in Windcrest, near San Antonio, and of the Windcrest Methodist Church until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joann Jones Dees; by his brother and his wife, Myron and Marilyn Dees of Canyon; by four children and their spouses (Russell Dees of Copenhagen, Denmark, Robin and Chris Leinen of Santa Rosa, California; Randy and Mary Jo Dees of Dripping Springs; and Richard Dees and Jennifer Kwon of Rochester, New York) and by seven grandchildren (Kristen Dees, Benjamin Dees, Maggie Leinen, Max Leinen, Hannah Gintberg-Dees, Emma Gintberg-Dees, and Cordelia Kwon).

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 9 at 3 p.m. at the Windcrest United Methodist Church in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the Music Ministry of the Windcrest United Methodist Church, 8101 Midcrown Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78239.
