A Letter from the Friends of the Library
Wednesday, August 15, 2012 • Posted August 17, 2012

We feel that we need to share with you, as library patrons, a grave concern. We have become aware of pending Llano county budgeting that will reduce the library budget considerably. We, as Friends of the Llano County Library System, are asking for your support of our public libraries.

At this time, the proposed budget cuts will cause the libraries to be closed on Fridays and Saturdays reducing services to four days a week. Additionally, the budget monies for books and materials purchased are proposed to be cut by nearly 50%.

We, as Friends of the Llano Library, ask for your support by contacting your elected County Judge and Commissioners immediately by calling his/her office or taking by a written request, that they re-consider this drastic cut of our county libraries.

According to our Library Statistics for fiscal year Oct 1, 2010-Sep 30, 2011, the libraries have given a Total Value of Services of $3,823,624.00 to the citizens of Llano County. These Services include in part, materials circulated, interlibrary loans, patron’s usage of computers, persons attending programs and classes, volunteer hours and patrons receiving electronic resources training. Return on investment is $8.40, that is, for every dollar invested in library services, $8.40 is received in materials and services by the residents of this community.
