For James Bond’s 87th birthday, he went up in an airplane, strapped himself to an instructor, and jumped.
“It was nothin’ to it,” Bonds said. “A rolly-coaster is much scarier!”
Bond turned 87 September 5, and has lived each of those 87 years to the fullest, judging by the stories he tells.
He had been planning the jump for some time, but things didn’t go exactly as planned; a gentleman from Australia who is producing a documentary on Llano’s very own .007, was there and took over. Bond didn’t like that too much, but he went with it.
The jump took place in San Marcos. The day before the documentary maker had his crew film a stunt double for Bond, doing flips and such out of the airplane, wearing a jumpsuit identical to the one James would wear the next day so that they could work movie magic and make it look as if James himself had done all of those flips.
James didn’t jump solo, he did a tandem jump, and later on during the editing the guy that was on his back during the fall will be taken out.
James has a video of him jumping, and he insists that it was easy as can be.
His day wasn’t over, though.
The producer decided it would be great fun to film James outrunning a gorgeous lady in a Lamborghini. (He was in his truck, of course.) The plan was that the lady driver would be peeling out, driving all over the place and Bond would pass her and give her a ‘signal’. However, Bond says, there was no way that was going to happen because she was driving all over the road, spitting dirt and rocks all over him, and that was just dangerous. So he didn’t pass her.
Now, this documentary isn’t the first movie James has been in – he starred in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape with Johnny Depp back in the early 90s. Well, he might not have starred in the movie, but he did get to meet him and get his autograph. And he was in the movie pulling his aluminum RV.
If you believe all of his stories, and there are plenty, and I do, then James Bond has certainly lived up to his name. His son, James Bond, has some big shoes to fill.
