Brown Santa Program Sets Out to Spread Cheer
Wednesday, October 24, 2012 • Posted October 29, 2012

After bringing Christmas to over 100 kids last year, the Llano County Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for it’s second year of the Brown Santa Program.

Llano County officials have joined forces to help bring a little Christmas joy to children, ages 0-18, which live in Llano County.

The program collects funds to purchase gifts, as well as donations of gifts, and gives them to children and families who meet criteria of need.

In its first year last year, the group saw an outpouring of generosity from the community as well as the obvious need to continue the program, and even extend it beyond the first year, which only targeted those living in unincorporated areas of the county.

This year, all children 0-18 living in Llano County and are considered low-income and/or have experienced a significant financial hardship during the past year are eligible. If the child is school-age, he or she must be attending school in order to be eligible.

Applications will be accepted from November 12 – December 14, and will be available at the Llano County Sheriff’s Office by contacting them at 325-247-5050, or they may be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office, located at 2001 N. State Hwy 16, Llano. Applications will also be available at any Justice of the Peace Office in Llano County.

Applicants will need to fill out the forms, provide proof of residency and income.

If you know a family that could benefit this holiday season, please fill out a form and turn it in.

Volunteers are also needed, and can help out by collecting toys, shopping for gifts and wrapping. If you would like to help, call 325-247-5050 for more information.

If you wish to make a monetary donation, please mail a check to the Llano County Sheriff Office, 2001 Hwy 16N, Llano, TX 78643. In addition to monetary gifts, they also accept new toys and children’s books, wrapping paper, tape, gift bags, and gift tags. Receipts for your charitable donation are available upon request.
