The Best

I have had the privilege to work in three different districts in my educational career. Those districts have been large (17,000+ students) and not so large (less than 3,000 students). Llano is the smallest of the three districts I have worked for but, without a doubt, it is THE BEST.

As I think about what makes Llano “The Best”, the first thing that comes to mind is our students. We have the best kids I have ever had the pleasure of serving. This is not only true at my campus, but at all Llano ISD’s campuses. The students we work with are truly amazing. The respect and character that these students show toward each other and the community is the best I have seen in a long time.

The quality of our students is a true testament to one thing … the adults in their lives. The support group that is available to these kids is awesome. Teachers and parents in the district do a tremendous job preparing and supporting their students in all areas. I appreciate the accountability standard that these students are held to, both inside and outside the classroom. It is a great thing to see and experience.

Community support is another characteristic that makes Llano “the Best”. As the saying goes, “It takes a whole village to raise a child”. That is so true in the LISD and Llano community. The support that this town shows for all aspects of its students and kiddos is becoming more and more obsolete in today’s world. I love going to school events and meeting people that do not “have” a child in the event. They are simply there to support the students and be a true community member. It is awesome! Keep it up.

As I look at the districts I have served, comparing the greatest successes, I always come to this conclusion. The people make the difference. Success occurs when we take care of the people, whether that is students, teachers, parents, or community members.

I have observed less success when people are placed second behind programs, facilities, technologies, curriculums, etc. It is pretty simple. Take care of your people and they will take care of everything else.

I would like to end with a big “thank you” to Llano ISD and the entire Llano Community.

My family and I wanted to find a place to settle and become a part of something great. We have found such a place in this community and school district. We have been welcomed and made to feel at home. I can’t imagine living or working anywhere else. Llano is truly “THE BEST”.
