The seventh grade Daubers hosted the Burnet Bulldogs Thursday at Jacket Stadium. The Black team won the first game and the Bulldogs the second. The Black team defeated the Bulldogs 32-8 to improve their season record to 6-1.
Llano’s Damien Walker returned the opening kickoff 71 yards for a TD to begin the onslaught. Shawn Kizer carried for the conversion and the Daubers took the early lead 8 - 0. Burnet answered on their first possession but, Andy Wright intercepted the Bulldog pass for the conversion to keep the score 8 - 6 Llano.
Llano lost a fumble and Burnet turned it back over on loss of downs. The Daubers’ Clinton Wright rushed 16 yards for the next score. Tyler Wennes completed his first of two passes to Luis Coronado for the two-point conversion to increase the Llano lead to 16-6. Shawn Kizer scored the next two touchdowns, the longest being a 55 yard sprint.
Defensive standouts were the Wrights, Coronado, Walker, Ian Fletcher, William Bailey, Cole Schlueter, Adriel Villarreal, Christopher Rhoades, and Zachary Beesley.
The White team lost a heart breaker to the Bulldogs 20 - 21. Burnet kicked an extra point in the fourth quarter for the win. The loss drops the Daubers season record to 5 - 3.
The White team scored first behind the hard running of Josh Soliz who had one carry for 53 yards in the drive. Ben Walling carried for the conversion and Llano led 8-0. Burnet tied the score 8-8 on their next possession.
The teams then traded punts on the next two possessions. Llano had a 63-yard drive going before losing a fumble at the Bulldog 15 yard line. The defense played tough and forced another Burnet punt late in the second quarter.
Llano drove 48 yards for their second score just before the half ended. Justus Honea hit Mason Greenwood on a pass for the score. The conversion failed and Llano lead 14 - 8 at the half.
Burnet fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half and Llano’s Tyler Gann recovered it at the Bulldogs 48 yard line. The Daubers drove for a score, the final 15 yards on a Ben Walling carry. The conversion failed and the score stood 20-8 early in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs answered on their first play of the half, as their elusive back went 65 yards for the score. The Daubers stopped the conversion and the score was 20-14.
Llano was unable to move the chains on offense and punted. The Bulldogs put together a 59 yard scoring drive extending into the 4th quarter that tied the game 20-20. Burnet chose to kick an extra-point and it was good giving them the lead 20-21.
The Daubers were again unable to move the ball and turned it over on loss of downs sealing the win for the Bulldogs.
The teams will wrap up their season at Brownwood’s Gordon Wood Stadium. The Black team will kickoff at 4:30 and the White team at 5:45 pm.
