Ken Wade

Ken Wade, of Llano, formerly of Killeen, passed away on Jan. 23, 2010, after a lengthy illness. His service was held at Harper Talasek Funeral Home, Jan. 27, 2010, and burial followed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Ken was born May 24, 1931, to J. T. and Ernestine Davis Wade in Bell County.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Wade of Llano, sons: Greg Wade, and Doug Wade and wife Donna, daughters: Jan Huffcut and husband Jim, and Ann Morris and husband Terry; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Dorothy Alexander, June Thompson, and David Wade; and step children Robert and Kim Cantrell.

Ken was an accomplished athlete and a leader in many ways. He was actively involved in sports throughout his life, in participating, coaching, and refereeing such as baseball, softball, basketball, football and golf. He made a positive impact on generations of young people by encouraging them to remain active throughout their lives by playing sports.

Pallbearers were Ryan Wade, Joel Daniels, Shawn Cockerham, Casey Landers, Terry Mikulenka, Ted Franklin and Dane Saucier. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ken’s golfing, fishing, baseball, and coffee buddies including Coach Cottle, Ronnie Chapman, Kermit Cosper, Jackie Justis, Jimmy Sutton, Wayne Gossett, Gary Gatliff, Billy Ratliff, Steve Griffin, Chuck Kuder, Billy Hughes, TTAB and ASA friends and colleagues.

Winnie and family would like to thank everyone for their support and kindness throughout Ken’s illness and passing.
