First Weekend of Summer Vacation Full for Llano

School ends this week, and to kick the summer off right, Llano is the place to be.

The Llano High School Class of 2011 will receive diplomas at the commencement ceremonies at the Llano High School Auditorium beginning at 8pm on Thursday, June 2.

This weekend marks the 76th Annual Llano Open Pro-Rodeo and, which will kick off with a meal on Friday, June 3 beginning at 5:30, and the rodeo at 8:00pm at Robinson Park Rodeo Arena. Saturday promises to be a full day of rodeo fun, beginning with the 10:00 am Rodeo Parade starting at the junction of Highway S 71 and Highway 16 in Llano. Llano Boy Scouts will be serving up barbecue on the Llano County Courthouse Square following the parade. Rodeo begins at 8:00 p.m. Adult rodeo tickets will be available for $10 and children’s rodeo tickets will be $5. Pauline Reese will be playing at the dance after the rodeo.

The first ever Llano RV Junebug Jam will be held on Friday, June 3 at the Llano River RV Park with proceeds benefiting Chemo Sabe. Music begins at 7pm.

On Saturday, June 4, kayaks will take over the Llano River for the annual Great Castell Kayak Race, with proceeds benefiting local non-profit organization Chemo Sabe. The Great Castell Kayak Race started in 2003 as a way to raise funds for local charities while having fun. Since then, the race has grown to the biggest kayak race in Texas! The race course is 12 miles long, starting at the Llano River RV Park in Mason County and finishing at RiverSounds Recording Resort in Castell Texas. There is no charge to watch, but to camp at the RV Parks, standard rates apply. Some other info: All paddlers must have a PFD and a cell phone, prizes must be picked up at awards ceremony at 2PM, all children must be accompanied by adult, spectator area opens at 10AM for finish line.

If you have not registered to participate- don’t worry! There is still time! You can register online through June 2 or in person the day of the race, June 4. (See the Llano Chamber of Commerce’s website for more information on fees and deadlines.)

The Heart of Texas Country Music Association will welcome Asleep at the Wheel this Saturday for this month’s Llano Country Opry at the beautiful historic LanTex Theater in downtown Llano.
