Fire Destroys Long Time Llano Business
Wednesday, July 27, 2011 • Posted July 27, 2011

On Saturday morning at approximately 4:45 am, the Llano Fire Department responded to a fire on CR 2323, at the Llano Cabinet Company.

The building, along with all of its contents burned completely, and was a total loss, according to Llano Police Chief James Schilling.

The company, owned by Jim and Mary Jane Thomas, had been in business since 1996, when Jim and Mary Jane purchased an existing shop that had been in business for 22 years.

Firefighters were on scene until around 10:30 am, and were called out numerous times from Saturday until Tuesday to tend to flare ups at the site.

The State Fire Marshall’s office came out to investigate the scene, but the cause of the fire was undetermined.

Schilling said that it is standard procedure to have the cause of a fire investigated.

There were approximately 17 people employed at the cabinet shop, many who had been there for years.

"I worked at that shop when Jim and Mary Jane bought it. For the last 16 years I have seen many friendships made. It helped me provide for my family for a long time. I watched it burn Saturday morning and it's still hard to believe it's gone. No matter what Jim decides to do I wish them the best and the shop will be missed," said Eric Meador.

In a special called meeting of the City Council, discussion of aid for the comppany is on the agenda. That meeting will be held on Thursday, July 28, at 4:30pm in Council Chambers.
