Cockaroo, Randy Leifeste’s world-famous rooster from Castell, was found unresponsive in his cage Friday morning, June 26, 2009. He was rushed to the taxidermist, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

When Cockaroo was hatched in February 2004, Randy and Karen nurtured the cute little chick and taught him the thing he needed to know in order to succeed in life. And, he did! After he was introduced to his lifelong friend, Billy Bass, the talented rooster entertained literally thousands of people from all over the world for more than five years. Of course, Randy was part of the entertainment, with his carnie barking; millions of smiles and laughs were produced by Cockaroo, Randy, and Billy Bass.

A wake will be held on Friday, July3rd, at the Castell General Store where Cockaroo will be remembered. We’ll raise our glass and have a few toasts in honor of our 16-inch feathered friend. Rooster Gumbo will be served from 5 p.m. until we run out. (Don’t worry, it’s not Cockaroo! ) The public is invited to help celebrate the life of Cockaroo.

Thanks to all who have made videos and photos over the past 5 years!! Cockaroo is survived by Randy Leifeste, Karen Marion, and Billy Bass.
