James A. Smith, 61, of Llano passed away, Saturday, April 19, at his home in Llano. He was born July 21, 1946, in San Saba, to Alfredo Elmo Smith and Rutha Maude Rankin Smith.

James is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by his two sons, Gary Smith and wife, Tasha, of San Antonio, and Mike Smith and wife, Laurie, of Lometa; his six grandchildren, Ciarra Lynn Smith, Joel Smith, Josh Smith, Alene Shick, Christopher Snyder, and Kendall Smith; his two brothers, Richard Smith and wife, Genie, of Llano, and John Smith, of San Saba; his three sisters, Peggy Horton and husband, Ronnie, of Llano, Ann Turner and husband, Parker, of Llano, and Pat Dawson and husband, Ralph, of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

On Jan. 11, 1966, James enlisted with the U.S. Air Forces and served time during the Vietnam War. He as an insurance adjuster and attended the Church of Christ. James married Nelda Gay Hightower in Lometa on Dec. 2, 1967.

Services will be held Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Harmony Ridge Cemetery.

The family request the memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
