The Hill Country Higher Education Foundation (HCHEF) awarded scholarships totaling $1,620 to deserving Llano High School students taking dual credit courses. Students receiving the scholarships include Breandan Marines, Sarah Crowell, Isabelle George, Katie Gibson, Adrian Limon, Taylor Gonzales, Cara Mack, Janey Meitzen, and Stephanie Reiley.

On behalf of the students, Llano High School and the Llano Independent School District, we would like to personally thank the members of the HCHEF board of directors including Crystal Barrington, Hunter Henry, Nancy Hulsey, J. Don McAlpin, Suzanne Owens, Hugh Reed, Tom Shaw, and Philip Worley.

HCHEF is a non-profit organization created in 2002. The vision of this organization is to realize a “dynamic economy that supports prosperous livelihoods for our local community.” By exposing a broader sampling of the community to opportunities of higher education the foundation hopes to enable the eventual realization of the broader vision.

LISD is united with HCHEF in its goals to broaden economic prosperity for the Texas Hill Country. Through excellence in education and providing college credit earnings potential through dual credit and AP courses, Llano High School and LISD believe this community-wide desire will come to fruition.

Through fundraising activities and the generous support of local benefactors, HCHEF provides funds to students involved in programs through Texas Tech University and Central Texas College. According to the foundation, numerous potential students in the hill country area do not pursue post secondary education because of the costs associated with attendance. HCHEF hopes to help students realize their dreams and to open doors that were otherwise closed.

Students interested in attending the CTC campus in Marble Falls or the Texas Tech Campus in Marble Falls should contact Julie Johnson at (830) 693-4645 or Mary Ann Scott, High School Junior/Senior Counselor at (325) 248-2209.

HCHEF relies solely on donations and proceeds of fundraising activities. Due to their enormous generosity in awarding scholarships, the coffers are beginning to run thin. When you decide to choose an organization to donate to this year, please consider this worthwhile organization. The money directly helps the students of this community.
