A 1967 presidential-style barbeque in front of the Texas White House on the banks of the Pedernales River will be hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of LBJNHP on Saturday, May 17.

The Stonewall event is part of the year long celebration of the centennial of President Johnson’s birth.

The event is a re-creation of a barbeque Mr. and Mrs. Johnson held at the ranch in 1967 to honor members of the Organization of American States.

The barbeque begins at 4 p.m. with a social hour and welcome by “President Johnson” portrayed by Michael Stuart. Guests are invited to view exhibits.

The highlight of the evening will be a 5:30 p.m. performance of the Fort Griffin Fandangle western heritage musical from Albany. The Fandangle is a long-running outdoor musical based on the pioneer chronicles of West Texas including trail drivers, buffalo hunters and a stagecoach chase.

The Fandangle also performed at the original 1967 event.

An LBJ-style barbeque dinner will be served after the Fandangle. The Bert Graham band will play country western favorites for listening and dancing on the banks of the Pedernales River.

Reservations are $100 per person and are available online at www.friendsoflbjnationalpark.org under Activities. For more information call (830) 868-7128, ext. 231.

The profits from this Friends of LBJNHP major fundraiser will provide future educational activities at the park and the Texas White House free to the public.
