The Hill Country Railroad has decided to offer rides on The Gandy Dancer Express.

The funny name has a very historical meaning. When railroads first started their construction phase, there was a company in Chicago called The Gandy Tool Co., that specialized in railroad construction tools.

Early railroads had pump handle cars that were used to inspect the track and transport workers. Later these cars became motorized.

The Hill Country Railroad purchased one of these pump handle motorcars that had been used by the AT & SF. It can seat six to eight passengers per trip.

This trip is only for the adventurous as accomodations are third class; however, no one can say it isn’t scenic and exciting. The trip will last less than an hour.

Fares will be $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 14 years. Proceeds will go for insurance payments and the acquistion of an engine. These excursions will start at 11 a.m. each Saturday.

See you there, but remember space is limited.
