The City of Llano and Main Street has proclaimed April 27 through May 3 as National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week, which is approaching 35 years, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek ways to engage in their community.

Volunteering meets local challenges and by working together our community is a better place to live.

Llano is filled with people who choose to live here or move here from other areas and want a better quality of life for their children and families.

In the city alone, there are various boards and committees that citizens do not realize exist.

The Planning and Zoning Board recommends boundaries for the original zoning districts and appropriate zoning regulations for each district

The Board of Adjustment, may be authorized to make special exceptions to the terms of the zoning ordinance that are consistent with the general purpose and intent of the ordinance in accordance with any applicable rules contained in the ordinance

The Llano Housing Authority provides equal housing opportunities for those who qualify for income-based housing

The Airport Advisory Committee meets on a called basis to deliberate and advise the city council on issues regarding and related to the airport.

The Fireman’s Retirement Board manages funds for the Llano Fire Fighters’s Pension Board and oversees the service for its members to issue payments to retirees and their beneficiaries

The Llano Main Street program, is primarily involved in historic restoration and economic revitalization to strengthen existing businesses and draw new businesses. It has a volunteer Advisory Board, and four committees, Design, Promotion, Organization, and Economic Restructuring.

The five year success of this program and our projects would not be as successful without the talent, ideas, and resourcefulness of the people involved in these committees.

The Rock N’ River Fest Committee has the wonderful Fourth of July Festival to raise money for Starry Starry Nights. Llano citizens, as well as visitors can enjoy the Christmas lights and activities on the river during the holiday season.

There are so many clubs and organizations that need your help, and what better way to insure a bright and successful future for everyone than to share your time and talent with those in need.

Volunteering can bring personal satisfaction and a sense of pride and ownership with the completion of a specific project. There are many organizations outside the city that would welcome your help and input. The opportunities are endless.
