1918 - 2010

Bert Schorlemmer died Feb. 27, 2010 in Llano, at the age of 91. He was born Dec. 30, 1918 in San Antonio to the late Bert T. and Louise Hasdorff Schorlemmer. He was raised in San Antonio, where he attended Edison High School. He was a resident of Llano County for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Valerie Eastman, and brothers-in-law, Donald Bragg and Phil Gluckman.

He is survived by sisters, Jewell Bragg of San Antonio and Edith Gluckman of Llano, nephews Kenneth Bragg (Rita) of San Antonio, Dale Bragg (Emily) of Duncan, Okla., neice Bonnie Barnett of Llano, five grand nephews: Ryan Bragg (Jenny) of Round Rock, Matthew and Stephen Bragg of Kyle, John Bragg of San Antonio, and Travis Bragg of Duncan, Okla.and three grand nieces: Leigh Bragg of Okla. Lindsey Eastman of San Antonio, and Bailey Barnett of Llano and many cousins.

Bert was a sign painter and artist, including gold leaf work on glass. He enjoyed his hobbies of playing the guitar and mandolin, ham radio, and motorcycle riding. He didn’t quit riding motorcycles unitl he was 89.

He worked various jobs including driving trucks and buses. He also repaired radios. He always went back to sign painting, which he had started while in high school.

During WWII, he hauled heavy construction equipment to many air bases being built across Texas. He later trucked gasoline to many of the military bases. He also drove in military convoys.

A private burial between his mother and father will be held at Mission North in San Antonio.
