The American Legion, Department of Texas, 21st District is holding its semi-annual convention at Frank Griggs Post 370 located at 200 Legion Drive in Llano on March 20-21. Over 200 delegates are registered to attend. Mail-in or door registration is $30 for the two-day event that includes a Saturday box lunch, evening banquet and dance in addition to the regular business sessions. Arrangements have been made with the Days Inn, Lone Star Inn and Best Western for room accommodations for the delegates and their families.

The District includes all 23 American Legion Posts, Auxiliary Units and Sons of the American Legion Squadrons within the 21st District and represents about 16,500 members. The District’s geographical area covers all of Central Texas ranging from San Angelo to Del Rio and all points in between. Legion Post 370 last hosted the event in 1997.

The banquet welcoming address will be delivered by Mayor Mike Reagor, City of Llano. Ally Rub, Post 370 Commander will respond. The guest speaker for the banquet is Gerald “Jerry” Brady, Chef de Chemin de Fer of the 40 & 8, a national and non-profit organization committed to charitable and patriotic aims. Their purpose is to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, to promote the well being of veterans and their widows and orphans, and to actively participate in selected charitable endeavors, which include programs that promote child welfare and nurse’s training. Membership is by invitation of honorably discharged veterans and honorably serving members of the United States Armed Forces.

Following the banquet, dancing and evening entertainment will be provided by Terry Mikulenka. A 9:00 a.m. Joint Memorial Service will be held Sunday morning at the Post Home conducted by District Legion Chaplain Harvey H. Klee and District Auxiliary Chaplain Virginia Ondov in which the Highland Lakes Honor Guard will participate.
