Council considers brief agenda

Monday night’s city council meeting was short, sweet and to the point.

All council members were present and with only four items on the agenda, the meeting didn’t last an hour.

Mayor Roger Pinckney called the meeting to order by asking if anyone had any non-agenda items to discuss. There weren’t any takers, so the council moved on to the items on the agenda.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved without hesitation.

The council then discussed the City of Llano Finance Department report. Finance Director Lynda Kuder, gave a brief synopsis.

“Sales tax is about 6 percent ahead of last year and the hotel tax is hanging in there,” said Kuder. “The golf course is running a little bit behind from where we want it to be.”

She opened the floor for questions, Mayor Pinckney had a question about funds left over from the 2005 TCF Main Street Grant. Kuder answered saying the funds were needing to be deposited back into the consolidated funds.

The item was up for discussion only, the report has not yet been approved.

The council approved the issue of the City of Llano Policy for tree trimming in an effort to prevent oak wilt.

The tree trimming policy is designed to apply to the trimming and removal of any plant, bush, or tree growth interfering with the safe operation of any electrical systems, right-of-way visibility, and maintenance of parks and public property. This amendment adds that oak trees should not be trimmed from Feb. 15 through June 15 and when conditions are favorable to oak wilt spread.

The last item the council discussed and approved was the resolution 2008-05-05 declaring a 90 day moratorium regarding the issuance of building permits for on-premise electronic scrolling and/or moving advertising signs and message boards.

This moratorium allows the staff to conduct research and draft an amendment for the planning commission to review; because TXdot has some control over the big billboards and what content goes on the signs.

The amendment, after 90 days would ultimately come before the council for consideration.
