Diabetes is a very common medical condition, yet individuals with diabetes often do not have enough information to help them make wise decisions regarding the foods they eat, their management of medications, avoiding foot and eye problems, and getting enough exercise. Thesetopics will be addressed at “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes,” a two-day course targeted to individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. The course will be held August 7 and 14, 2010, at the Horseshoe Bay City Hall from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The City Hall is located at #1 Community Drive, next to the Fire Station on Highway 2147. An excellent assortment of health care professionals affiliated with Llano Memorial HealthCare System will be available to serve as instructors. Diana Tarvin, RN, will present information on Diabetes and Exercise. Managing Your Blood Glucose will be addressed by Jinny Sumrall, PA. Jennifer Lockmiller, pharmacist, will discuss Diabetes Medicines. Dr. Peter Davenport will provide information on Preventing and Managing Complications. Kelly Tarpley, RD, LD, will shed light on topics related to nutrition and diabetes with four presentations: Nutrition, the First Step to Diabetes Management; One Diet – No Longer the Sole Option; For Good Measure at Home and Eating Out; and Nutritional Levels.
