Michael Williams, chairman of the Railroad Commission of Texas, will the featured speaker at the Llano County Republican Club on Tuesday, June 3.
Chairman Williams is a dynamic speaker who is able to keep his audience on the edge of their chairs. He was initially appointed to the Commission by George W. Bush in December 1998. Since then, he has repeatedly been re-elected to that post. Williams served as Chairman of the Commission from September 1999 to September 2003.
He is the first African American in Texas history to hold an executive statewide- elected post.
The Railroad Commission is the State’s oldest regulatory commission. Williams chairs the Governor’s Clean Coal Technology Council and Future Generation Texas—an initiative to build the first near-zero, carbon free coal power plant in the world.
He also serves as the Railroad Commission’s point person for the agency’s regulatory reform and technology modernization efforts.
Highlighting his career, Williams served as prosecutor in the Reagan Justice Department. In 1988 he was awarded the Special Achievement award for the conviction of six Ku Klux Klan members. He also served in the Department of Justice as Special Assistant to Attorney General Richard Thornburgh.
Mr. Williams is also active in the community and is Honorary Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Texas. He often goes to the airport to welcome home returning servicemen from their tours of duty.
Mr. Williams is the son of school teachers and grew up in Midland, Texas. He holds a bachelors, a masters and law degrees from the University of Southern California.
He is a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Arlington, and he has been married to his wife, Donna, for twenty-two years.
The Llano County Republican Dinner Meeting will be held at Inman’s Kitchen in Llano. The meeting begins with a social time from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., after which dinner will be served. The cost for the dinner is $15 and your reservation needs to be in by Friday, May 30.
