The family of Frank and Mary Rhoades gathered on Saturday, August 14 for the reunion, that is held the second Saturday of August each year. It was just as big as usual and excellent as always.

There were about 74 attending; some names were not listed, but were remembered just the same and added to the total number.

Harry Isenberger, held the honor of the being oldest attendee until he passed away this year. Margaret Heistand, 83, of Buchanan Dam now claims this honor. The youngest family member this year was Millie Woodard, 4 months, of Brownwood.

Driving the farthest from Andrews was Jerry and Carol Rhoades and Douglas and Marcy Rhoades.

All who attended were from somewhere in Texas even though there are many out-of-state relatives.

The men frying the fish were so grateful for the American Legion Hall and the outside roof. The fish were caught by the Rhoades; the rest of the family brought side dishes that were non-fattening.

About 16 or 17 of the younger family members attended.

The silent auction was a great success and all items were sold. Two rocking chairs of Granny Rhoades’ and many old pie plates, sugar bowls, etc.were among the treasures. Another popular feature was the old snapshots that were available. Everyone had fun identifying the family members in the photos and the pictures were available to any who wanted one.

There was a mention of doing a Rhoades Family Tree. Sylvia Rhoades did this a few years ago and if anyone would like to add to it please make a list of your family and who your ancestors were. It is believed that there were 10 children, so there would be 10 branches to the tree. It would be fun to try again.

The family will gather again next year, same place, and same date.
