The State Convention for Epsilon Sigma Alpha International (a service sorority) was held the weekend of May 17 in Dallas.
Nine members from the Burnet and Llano County’s chapter of Lambda Nu, Beta Rho and Delta Zeta attended a fun-filled weekend of awards, honors and seminars (not to mention some fantastic meals).
One of the awards presented was the DIANA Award (Distinguished International Academy of Noble Achievement). This is an award given to women outside the sorority who have made a difference.
The winner of the 2008 DIANA Award was Kim Turke with Camp Agape – a Bereavement Camp for Children – located in Burnet County. Camp Agape is a healing place for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
Their free summer camp program provides therapeutic tools, as well as a safe and nurturing environment for children to process the intense emotions they are feeling during despairing times in their lives. The camp also serves military children who have lost a parent serving in the war in Iraq.
Camp Agape is a nonprofit organization and offers this service at no cost to the children through sponsorships by private donations.
Campers are accepted on a first come, first served basis by applications received. For more information or to sponsor a child please contact www.campagapetexas.org.
