Dear Editor,
As you know, the Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail was formed 2 years ago and we have really accomplished a lot. We are working on structural repairs for the old jail, as we pursue fundraising activities and community outreach projects. However, we are in need of some thoughtful insight as to how to further grow our group. Our aim is to make the Red Top into a major tourist attraction, including a permanent museum, staff and enthusiastic groups to extend this great resource into the community.
We need concerned citizens who can see beyond the trees and help us get back to the forest. Particularly, we need help strategizing 4 goals for the next 5 years: (1) to increase memberships, (2) to promote the jail and its history, (3) to raise money, and (4) to develop a sustainable legacy giving program (perpetual giving). These goals are a result of a workshop with the Friends’ Board of Directors and the LCRA that took place in May.
To date, we have Mike Reagor, Sharon Kielin, Kim Webb, Cheryl Crabtree, Ron Anderson, Dave Franks, Inell Franks, Phyllis Farr Alexander, Tommy Nelms, Tanya Revada, Sarah Franklin and Roger Pinckney. If you would like to be a part of this advisory board now or in the future, please call Sheri Zoch at 325-248-0284. The Advisory Board will meet 2-4 times a year. This board will help the Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail Board of Directors focus on what we need to do to meet our goals.
Thank you,
Sheri Zoch, President
Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail

Dear Editor,
I am sure that you have received numerous comments regarding the senseless shooting and death of "Munchee". I read this story in two newspapers and just could not believe something that callous could have occured in Llano,Texas!
Even "IF" the dog was intentionally left unattended, it certainly did not deserve to be "blown away" by an irate homeowner for doing what comes naturally to a dog or even a human. Dogs, however don’t use restroom facilities.
I am a HARD CORE animal lover. My dog is treated as one of the family, just as I feel that "Munchee" was part of Ms. Gomez’ family.
It was reported that a .45 caliber gun was the weapon used and the bullet went through the dog’s neck, so I begin thinking about stray bullets and school and children and lots of other scenarios.
I will be quite disappointed if the shooter goes unpunished. The report states that the incident involved a retired peace officer. Well, they of all people should know better!
Sincerely Infuriated,
Jill Tate, Valley Spring

Dear Editor,
Emergency situations come in all shapes and sizes....Last Friday Hill Country Healthcare Center had an 6’8" by 3' by 8' problem dropped off at the back door....
The emergency??? We can not leave this commercial refrigerator on the sidewalk over the weekend...and the back door is NOT 80" tall! The delivery man dropped it off and pulled his dolly and went on his way...his mission to deliver to the building completed. With 1 male in the building (with a back problem) and 5 females (2 under 5' tall and 2 well, let’s just say ‘over 60’)....Who ya gonna call?
I called the Llano Police Department. I explained the situation. I also invited them to call the fire department for backup.
In short order, half a dozen strong, handsome fellows showed up. They assessed the situation, developed a plan and in no time at all had that huge appliance manuvered down the hill, around the building in the front door (which IS 80" tall) down the hall and into the dining room!
Our Public Servants served us well! They make us proud to be part of the Llano Community. They truely are Llano’s Finest!
Thanks to the dispatcher and the fellows who answered our pleas for help. You are all wonderful!
Becky Jenison RN, DON and everyone here at Hill Country Healthcare Center.
