Quotations from outside engineering firms are on the agenda for Monday’s Llano County Commissioners Court meeting and the court will get an initial look at a survey of facilities needs from Komatsu Architecture.

Since the county’s year-long work at repairing flood damage and increasing development in the floodplain, commissioners have felt the need for consultations but the topic was tabled at last Monday’s meeting so each precinct’s representative could review qualifications.

Earlier in the year Fort Worth architect Karl Komatsu was hired to assess the needs of county offices for a new facility. While the report is not to be on the agenda for action County Judge Wayne Brascom said he would be able to make it available to commissioners for a first look.

Commissioners also will hold future workshops for topics that require extended discussion. The topics and dates are the Llano County Emergency Notification System at 8:30 a.m. on June 17, wind turbines at 1:30 p.m. on June 23 and county subdivision regulations at 9 a.m. on June 24

Also at the last meeting, the court ratified an application for a $466,000 federal grant for radio equipment for the county’s nine volunteer fire departments. If the Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program application is successful, the county will be required to make a five percent match – about $23,000 -- for radios that can communicate with outside resources according to Homeland Security requirements.

“The county certainly wants to make sure our fire departments are as well equipped as possible and a grant is the way to do it,” said Brascom. “It is too big a financial burden on our own.”

Juan Garza, the new general manager of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative, was on hand to meet commissioners and Llano County Extension Agents Marilyn Hale and Jamie Osbourn to make a semi-annual report.

“They do a great job,” said Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Don Moss.

“As a result I talked with them about Master Gardeners doing work on the grounds of the courthouse and around other county buildings,” said Brascom.

Sheriff-elect Bill Blackburn, a former Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) game warden, appeared on behalf of a request for approval of a resolution to support legislation to provide assistance to counties for predator control through TPW fees.

Commissioners authorized negotiations with former Llano City Manager George Rogers on behalf of a company that owns five lots comprising between one and a half and two acres of land behind the Llano County Road and Bridge facility on SH 71.
