Representative Harvey Hilderbran, R-Kerrville, awarded six scholarships to Hill Country students who graduated from high school this May.
Winners were chosen based on academic performance, grade point average, class ranking, accomplishments and an essay question about a current issue to be addressed by the Legislature.
Representative Hilderbran established the “Hilderbran Scholars Fund” to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a degree at a college, university or technical school of their choice.
“I established this fund to help continue the effort to make higher education available to everyone,” Hilderbran said. “These young people have worked hard to accomplish their goals and they deserve to be recognized.”
Award winners for 2008 are Britany Phillips, Tivy High School, Kerrville; Caitlyn Talarico and Taylor Faust, Ingram Tom Moore High School, Ingram.
Also Tyler Dombroski, Eldorado High School, Eldorado; Amber Ward, Llano High School, Llano; and Joanna Baird, Ballinger High School, Ballinger.
“Congratulations to the winners, applicants and all graduates from District 53 on a job well done,” Hilderbran said.
