The current topic of immigration will be the subject for the next meeting of the Kingsland Genealogical Society (KGS) on Tuesday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at the Kingsland Library.
Harlan Green, of Georgetown will be the guest speaker, and will discuss “Why the ‘Pilgrims’ Left the Old World for the New…From Feudalism to Freedom.”
Mr. Green is a native of Lyons, Ohio, where his father was a dairy farmer and he grew up the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from the University of Michigan and served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, Ga., and Poitiers in France.
After retirement he relocated to Georgetown where he became active in the Patrick Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and has served in its color guard.
The KGS meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Kingsland Library, where it also supports a collection of genealogical research books and materials. Its sessions are always open to the public and visitors are welcome.
The group has also recently re-printed a book, Families of Early Kingsland, and Nearby Communities in Llano and Burnet Counties, compiled from materials collected by the late Muriel Barnett Jackson. The book is available at several locations in Kingsland, or by calling (830) 598-6443.
