The Masons of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge # 413 have selected Floyd A. Drake, of Kingsland, to receive the prestigious Golden Trowel for 2008.

This award is given in concert with the Grand Lodge of Texas to recognize Masons who have given of their time and talents above the everyday level of fraternal membership. The award recognizes service to the Masonic Lodge, its members, and the larger community.

The award will be presented during a special ceremony at 6 p.m., Monday at Blazing Star Lodge # 413, 319 Avenue G in Marble Falls.

Drake currently serves Blazing Star Lodge as chaplain and has conducted Masonic burial services throughout the 49th Masonic District, which includes, Smithwick, Kingsland, Llano, Lake Victor and Burnet.

Drake led the fraternity as Master of the Lodge for two terms. He serves as the chairman of the Gift of Life Blood Drive and faithfully performs the role of Santa at the Lodge’s Christmas party for foster children.

A member of the Highland Lakes Ben Hur Shrine Club, Drake has transported children and their families to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Houston and the Galveston Shriner’s Burn Unit.

In addition to his Masonic service, Drake is an elder in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Marble Falls.
