Margaret Bales Ratliff, 96, formerly of Kingsland, died June 14, in Austin. She was the daughter of Marvin B. Bales and Lillie Templeton Bales, of Lone Grove.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy George (husband David), of Nashville, Tenn.; and Judi Davis, of Austin; six grandchildren: Jennifer Low (husband John), of Waco; Andrew George, and Michael George (wife Isabelle), of Nashville, Tenn.; Darrell Davis (wife Stephanie), of Wake Forest, N.C.; Douglas Davis, of Dallas; and Debbie Davis Brutsche,of Mansfield. Also, seven great-grandchildren: Lindsey and Madison Low, Sébastien George, Riley and Avery Davis, and Ellie and Maggie Brutsche; two sisters: Lolete Ratliff, of Killeen, and Anita Stone, of Big Spring.

Mrs. Ratliff married the late Wortham W. Ratliff of Llano in 1936. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 1937. After twenty-five years teaching in San Antonio, she and her husband moved to Kingsland, where she enjoyed gardening, visiting, and community work. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland. She also served offices in the Highland Lakes Retired Teachers Association and was a lifetime member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 17, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kingsland, with Dr. David C. George officiating. Visitation with the family will be one and half hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Board Branch Cemetery in Lone Grove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to any charity of choice.
