Members of the Kingsland Genealogical Society (KGS) will learn about working with old family photographs and treasures at their next meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the Kingsland Library, 125 West Polk at RR 1431.
The speaker will be Jim White, who lives in Round Rock but also works with KGS because of deep family ties to Llano County and the surrounding area.
He will discuss “Dating and Restoring Old Photographs and Documents.” The meeting is open to the public and visitors are welcome.
White has spent several decades researching and documenting family histories, and during that period, has photographed and recorded more than 146 cemeteries in Texas and Louisiana. Included are those in the Llano and Cherokee areas, such as Llano City Cemetery, Cherokee (Hanna, Kuykendall, and Gray), Lower Big Valley, Upper Big Valley, Bend, Coppell, and Baby Head Cemeteries.
In the process, he has collected and restored more that 500 old family and location photos, and will describe his preservation efforts.
Professionally, he is a retired publisher/owner of several newspaper and magazine companies, with experience also in corporate management of radio properties.
The KGS meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Kingsland Library, where it also supports a collection of genealogical research books and materials.
