The residents of Llano County and other area counties need to be aware of a recent FRAUDULENT effort by phone and e-mail subscribers asking for personal confidential information of internet banking customers.

The scammers represent that a bank, i.e., Franklin Bank or Wachovia Bank, or another, have a new security system, and an update is required. The message is bogus, and may even originate from outside the United States.

If you receive an e-mail or phone call, please DO NOT give out passwords, user identification, account number, social security numbers, or other personal information.

A complaint has been filed with the Attorney Generals’ Consumer Protection Office.
