“Cooking Well with Diabetes,” a three-week cooking school offered by Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Scott and White Hospital - Llano, will teach participants how to select ingredients and prepare foods that will promote healthy eating habits for individuals with diabetes. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on three Thursdays in a row: February 9, February 16, and February 23, 2012. The location will be the Llano County Annex on State Highway 71 East in Llano.

Pre-registration is required; individuals should contact the Llano County Extension Office at 325-247-4849 by Monday, February 6, 2012, to enroll.

Lessons will be: Carbohydrate Foods; Making Recipes with Fat Better for You; Reducing Sodium and Increasing Fiber; and Celebrating Sensibly with Diabetes. Each class will include cooking tips, product information, food demonstrations, sampling, educational handouts, and recipes. Presenters will be Marilyn Hale, County Extension Agent – Family and Consumer Sciences, Llano County, and Kelly Tarpley, RD, LD, with Scott and White Hospital – Llano. A $20 per person fee will be charged to defray costs of food and supplies; the fee covers the entire three weeks and is payable at the time of pre-registration.
