Former officers, new friends and many supporters of Llano New Horizons have met on two occasions this summer to help get Llano New Horzions (LNH) on its collective feet once more.
Although the non-profit financial aid organization has continued to furnish aid to families with short-term emergencies in the Llano area, it has recently operated with only three volunteers—Todd Keller, treasurer; Sara Holland, secretary; and the Rev. David Griffin, chairman.
Nineteen enthusiastic persons met on Monday, Aug. 11 at St. James Lutheran Church in Llano and agreed that the resources in leadership and financial help are there, and the need is real and great in our town and nearby.
Fully committed, new officers and directors were elected as follows:
Martha Long, chairman; Todd Keller, treasurer; Sara Holland, secretary. The six directors agreeing to serve are Kitty Cone, Ilene Flint, Julia Hillbun, Hattie Sagebiel, Hudson Long, and Judy Waddell.
Other churches sending member or clergy representatives were First Presbyterian, Lutie Watkins Methodist, Grace Episcopal, First Baptist, all of Llano; and First Baptist of Tow and St. John Lutheran of Castell.
Other organizations in attendance were Llano Women’s Culture Club and the City of Llano.
Llano New Horizons is a not-for-profit Texas Corporation and an IRS approved 501(c)(3) Corporation, accepting tax deductible donations to provide medicine, utility payments, doctor bills, rent, and other short-term emergency assistance, payable to the provider.
Since its incorporation in 2001, it has served an average of about 100 families per year. It began as an outgrowth of a jail ministry of the late James Hoffman and his wife Nell.
When the Hoffmanns could no longer handle the growing needs alone, they asked the Llano Ministerial Alliance to take it over.
The officers, directors, and advisory board will meet again on Monday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of St. James Lutheran Church, 1401 Ford Street, in Llano.
All are encouraged and welcome to attend the meetings and take part in revitalizing this important ministry.
