The eighth annual Llano County Extension Banquet was held Aug. 19, at the American Legion Hall in Llano with 120 in attendance.

John Begnaud, retired Tom Green County Extension Horticulturist, was the guest speaker, sharing information about current trends in the horticulture industry.

The “green industry” is now the second leading agricultural enterprise in Texas, with beef cattle being in first place. Begnaud also emphasized the importance of examining sources of information on the Internet to make sure there is a scientific basis for claims that are made or practices that are recommended. Also, he shared information about oak wilt in Texas.

The Friend of Extension Award was presented to Mike Reagor. The Friend of Extension Award is awarded each year by the Leadership Advisory Board to recognize individuals who have contributed significantly to the Texas AgriLife Extension program in Llano County.

Reagor was recognized for his contributions as a member of the Extension Agriculture Committee and the Leadership Advisory Board. He has helped plan and conduct numerous educational activities as an Extension volunteer.

Clarence McDaniel, chairman of the Extension Leadership Advisory Board, presided at the meeting and served as master of ceremonies. Award winners in the 4-H and Extension Education Clubs were recognized for their accomplishments. A booklet highlighting Extension educational efforts for the past year was distributed.

Musical entertainment was provided by Bill Tuckness, Boots Simpson, Mike Sanders, Kevin Ranne, and Loma Ranne. Llano Master Gardeners decorated for the banquet.

The Extension Banquet is planned and conducted annually by the members of the Extension Leadership Advisory Board, a group of volunteers which gives direction to the overall Extension program.

The meal was catered by Inman’s Kitchen and the Leadership Advisory Board. Many thanks go to the 4-H members, adult leaders, Extension committee members, Leadership Advisory Board members, and other volunteers who assisted with the evening’s activities.
