The Kingsland/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce this Saturday will hold a Labor Day Poker Run for Boaters and Labor Day Dance featuring country singer Conrad Vernon.

The popularity of the poker run made it a natural, according to chair Chris Carl of Munchkinland.

The Aqua Boom Poker Run saw more boaters and bigger prizes than any other in the event’s 39-year history. Last year, when Aqua Boom was rained out in July, it was re-made on Labor Day.

Participation convinced chamber organizers that visitors are looking for Kingsland activities right through August.

Registration for the poker run will be 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kingsland Community Park and all hands must be returned before 3 p.m.

Players must be 18 or older and the cost is $25 a hand, with prizes awarded to boaters for high and low hands among boaters who find their way to all the stops along Lake LBJ.

The dance, also at the park, goes on from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with food from Junction House Restaurant and a donation bar.

Vernon is a local favorite who has been entertaining since his early days at Texas Tech when he played with the Lubbock star “Buddy” Holly. Dance music will round out with selections from the collection of 50,000 numbers offered by Marble Falls DJ John Eric of Big Star Mobile Entertainment.

Tickets are $10 at the door but $8 in advance at HEB Food Store, Merle Norman and Much More, Kingsland Health & Fitness, Reflections Day Spa or chamber offices at 2743 W. RR 1431.

Proceeds of both events support activities of the chamber and improvements to Kingsland Community Park.

At a membership reception at Lost Creek Winery last week three new chamber committees were organized.

The first, the Economic Development Committee, is in search of more members and a chair.

Sullivan will head the Lodging & Restaurant Committee, which will sponsor activities that could qualify for motel tax revenue to build tourism in the unincorporated areas of Llano County. The chair has worked on a state tourism committee in the office of Texas Governor Rick Perry and with tourism efforts in Gillespie County.

The Kingsland/Lake LBJ Chamber Ambassadors is being organized to welcome new members and to serve as a liaison between all members and their chamber resources. Co-chairs are John Kardow of LakeTime Realty and Gay Gambert of Gay Gambert Music Studio in Buchanan Dam.

More information about Labor Day events and tickets or about new committees and board membership is available from the chamber office at (325) 388-6211 or from Lynda Shroyer, board president, at (325) 388-8799.
