Family history researchers will examine the “new media” at the next meeting of the Kingsland Genealogical Society (KGS) on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Kingsland Branch Library, 125 West Polk.

Elizabeth Johnston, former genealogy and local history librarian at the Round Rock Public Library, will discuss “Current Genealogy: Web sites and Blogs and Podcasts, Oh My!”

Johnston was employed at the Round Rock library from 1995 to the end of 2004, and earned a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. She is currently a Board member of the Austin Genealogical Society, and is a member of the Williamson County Genealogical Society and the Texas State Genealogical Society.

She has given presentations for local societies and at the national meeting of the Federation of Genealogical Societies which was held in Austin in 2004, and has taught continuing education sessions on using computers, computer databases, and the Internet for family history research.

She has been doing active research herself since 1994, and her personal areas of interest include Mexico, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, U.S. military history, and U.S. religious history. The KGS program is open to the public and visitors are welcome.
