An additional hour of academic assistance will become part of the Llano High School schedule beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Ninth period, will be from 3:50 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday, will provide peer tutoring with staff supervision to all students failing two or more core classes as of three week reports. Tutoring will be available for all math, science, social studies and language arts classes.

Upon issuing three week reports, Principal Dan Vera will personally conference with each student failing two or more academic classes as well as communicate by phone with the students’ parents.

Principal Vera explains, “Ninth period is not a consequence. It is an achievement strategy. Research shows us that there is only one equation that we as educators can manipulate to help students learn and that is ‘Time plue Support equals Learning.’ If a student is not passing his/her classes, we will increase the amount of time we dedicate to that student and the amount of support in order to insure we have done all we can to provide an opportunity for that student to be successful here at Llano High.”

Transportation options will be available and students will attend ninth period until their grades are passing. Ninth period tutorial will run Monday through Thursday until the end of the six weeks.
