The Llano ISD Board of Trustees approved a new tax rate for fiscal year 2009 of $1.215 per $100 of property value, a hike from $1.19 a year ago.

The rate includes a maintenance and operation rate of $1.04 and an interest and sinking rate of $0.175.

According to a report from the district financial officer, Jo Ann Williams, the rate does not exceed the rollback rate but does exceed the effective tax rate.

“The effective rate is calculated by dividing the taxes levied for 2007-08 by the taxable value for 2008-09,” she said. “This calculation results in an effective tax rate of approximately $1.09, which is about 11 percent less than the proposed rate of $1.215.”

Residents will see about a $25 increase in property taxes on a home valued at $100,000. The average taxable value of a home increased by $167.87, which is about 7.8 percent higher than last year.

The motion to adopt the new rate passed by a unanimous decision.
