George Edward Prime passed away on December 18, 2008 in Llano after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born in Fairfax, Mo. on September 12, 1928 to Earnest Edward (Guy) Prime and Hallie Mae Rhodes Prime, George built a long career in service to his country.

He left high school at 17 to join the United States Navy, then returned to complete high school and on to Tarkio College, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Sciences in Biology.

He later went on to complete his Master of Sciences in Sanitation at the University of Minnesota.

He served for over two decades in the United States Public Health Service, including serving as the Deputy Director of the Indian Health Service, before retiring with the rank of Captain.

Many of his articles, published by The Public Health Journal, established food handling processes and procedures that are still followed today.

His career with the Public Health Service took him and his family to posts in Missouri, Minnesota, Virginia, Maryland, Wyoming, South Dakota and Arizona and finally in retirement to the Great State of Texas.

He was an avid RV’er and a true lover of nature, especially of wild animals in their natural habitat. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and was a faithful supporter of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church in Hemphill.

He married Armella Rae (Toby) Thompson on June 25, 1950 and together they had one daughter, Susan Lynn (Prime) Robinson.

Toby preceded him in death on June 25, 1987. He married Glenna Sue Prime on August 23, 1991 and they relocated from Hemphill to Llano.

George was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Prime Hopkins.

He is survived by his wife, his daughter, son-in-law, Glenn Robinson, and his four grandchildren, Kimry and Jeremy McDonnell and Troy and Hailey Robinson and his two step-sons, Terry and Tommy Williamson.
