The May meeting of the Llano Woman’s Culture Club honored past presidents of the club at its annual President’s Day Tea. Former presidents who were honored were Martha Long, Sarah Franklin, Dorothy Murchison, Patsye Parker, Gayle Hardaway, Billie Laning, Julia Hilbun, Janice Shannon and Carol Dodgen. Sue Prime, past president from 1999 to 2001 was unable to attend.

Kingsland Masonic Lodge #1424 gave out two scholarships last night at the Kingsland Masonic Lodge to two Llano High School students. Recipients of the $2000 scholarships were Cierra Jordan and Alec Hasty.  The scholarships will be used to further the education of these two students. Kingsland Masonic Lodge raises money through raffles, aluminum can collection and selling food at various events.

Commissioners tabled the burn ban on Monday, May 13, which leaves it off for now. It will be reconsidered at the next meeting, and most likely every meeting through the summer. Llano County ESD #1 board members reported on the taxing entity’s financial status. Currently, the ESD has an excess of funds, and reported that they are working to decrease the excess, but the process is methodical because of strict taxing laws.

On Wednesday, May 8, at about 7am the Llano County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Llano Police Department and ATF, executed a search warrant at 202 E. Navarro in Llano. Over 400 grams of methamphetamine was recovered along with several items of paraphernalia. There were two arrested for 1st Degree Felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, 34 year old Michael Vincent Riggs Jr and 25 year old Maranda Ann Smith.

Mikel Virdell defeated incumbent mayor, Mike Reagor, by more than 170 in the May 11 election. The two went head to head in 2009, with Reagor winning by about 60 votes. After two terms in office, however, Reagor will hand over the reins to Virdell, who promised to move the city forward in a debate held between the two candidates.

This Saturday, May 11, will mark 60 years that Lee Duncan has been a barber in Llano, not only in the same shop, but at the same chair. Lee and his wife Virginia were born and raised right here in Llano; and have always lived here, with the exception of Lee, who left for a brief career in the Navy.

On Thursday, May 2 an Amber Alert was issued for 13-year-old Savannah Sloan and 15-year-old Misty Sloan after they were reported missing from a residence in Kingsland. At the time the Amber Alert was issued, 33-year-old Keith Mize was named as a person of interest. Later that evening, Llano Sheriff's Office received a tip.

Donny Stewart and Scottie Bryan Scoggins plead no-contest in the 2011 death of a Llano County inmate on Thursday, May 2 before District Judge Dan Mills. The two former Llano County jailers accepted a plea agreement in the case; both were charged with a Class A Misdemeanor for deadly conduct and both will serve jail time. The two were indicted by a Llano County Grand Jury in July 2012.

On April 16, 2013, the Llano FFA Chapter went the San Saba District FFA Convention in Goldthwaite, Texas. The two members that attended the convention were Kathryn Cunningham and Julianna Ball. These two individuals served as the voting delegates and also received the awards for Llano FFA. The awards they received were 1st in Meats Judging 2013, 1st in Livestock Judging 2013, 3rd Jr.
