The Fellowship of Christian Athletes calls itself “The Heart and Soul in Sports.” You certainly can find plenty of both in the Highland Lakes. The FCA is thriving in Llano. “When you put God in your life,” said Jacket sophomore Josh Petty, “you have a different view of athletics. You want to help athletes who are struggling with whatever they need.” “The FCA is real positive,” declared Barney Sarver.

They move their feet real fast, itty-bitty steps. They do these push-ups side-by-side and move down a short path. It’s not the olden-day push-ups where you remained in one position. That’s not good enough. This adventure requires a travel manifest. And, “boxes” are provided: they’re like foot stools, and you leap over them.

The Sting traveled to Corpus Christi to play in the CC Summer Sizzler June 1-2 for the first tournament of 2013. With most of the teams from the Corpus area, few had a clue about the Sting or where Llano County was located in Texas. One thing is for sure now, these teams know that these girls from Llano County can play softball.

Arts: Fuel hosted The Hill Country Youth Spotlight with 25 plus in attendance on Tuesday, June 4, artists included Savannah, father and daughter duo London and David as well as special appearance by Caleb Rojas that plays with John Arthur Martinez. On Sunday evening Fuel served around 200 hamburgers to Llano residents and a few folks from out of town as well, this is an ongoing project each Sunday night at 5:00pm.

The 78th Annual Llano County Rodeo Parade celebrated a western tradition by successfully making its way through the streets of Llano, around the Courthouse Square, and into the history books. The 2013 Rodeo Parade on June 8 was sponsored by the Llano Chamber of Commerce, Ratliff Chevrolet-Buick, Stripes, and an anonymous Rodeo Parade Fan since 1948!

Some make us laugh, some make us shout, some make us cry, but they all bring Glory to God, which is our goal.

Another school year has come and gone, and summer is already here. The first weekend in June has historically been reserved for the rodeo and rodeo parade, and now, it too, has come and gone. Although some aspects of these events have remained constant over the years, a lot of changes have come about.

Billy Ray Swope, 83, of Llano, passed away, June 8, 2013. He was born to William Ray and Wilma Gentry Swope on May 17, 1930 in Killeen, Texas Bill graduated from Killeen ISD class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Ma’Joyce Rivers on February 19, 1955.

The Lord took Glenn home on May 28, 2013 in Tow, Texas. Glenn was the son of Jewel and Glenn Smith. Glenn was raised in Watsonville, California after his mother and two brothers hitchhiked there from Oklahoma. In Watsonville, Glenn married his high school sweetheart, Joy Day Watson in 1952.

Larry G. Brumley passed away Friday, June 6, 2013 at the age of 54. He was born to Glenda (Chastney) and LG Brumley October 22, 1958 in Hobbs, New Mexico. Larry was of the Nazarene Faith and had lived in Llano for over 20 years. He enjoyed watching television, electronics and cars. Members of Central Texas Electric Co-op Board District 4 (Llano County) met Monday, June 10th in the Llano High School Auditorium. The members were welcomed by the co-op’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert A. Loth III. Mr. Loth opened the meeting by introducing members of the co-op’s Board of Directors in attendance.
